Where did it all start

As a child I was always curious to know the reason we are born and what is our purpose in the creation beyond just eating, sleeping and working. As a child, I did not have enough resources to seek an answer to this intriguing problem. But as soon as I got some level of independence, I tried various ways to figure this out.

It all started at a friend\’s home, where I met an old woman who used to work there. She must be in her eighties. Her face was always lit up with a beautiful smile. Though as per worldly standards she was not be doing great in life, she seemed to know some deeper truths which caused her infectious smile. Meeting her filled me up with inquisitiveness to find the true meaning of life. And possible the secret this old women knew which made her happy in all situations of life

I went to many different gurus and meditation teachers and learned bits and bytes about meditation and spirituality from them. My mind was never fully satisfied with one of them, so I always kept moving on from one teacher to the next.

Eventually, I found a common theme across all the teachers and gurus. A theme that talked about knowing this inner being which was all peaceful and calm. Connecting to this inner self was the core. I later found out a more fascinating word for this practice- Mindfulness – the science of being in the now.

Why Mindfulness

So before we talk about anything about me or about mindfulness, I would like to address one question we often forget to ask. Why is it that we need to practice mindfulness?

Well, I am guessing if you\’re reading this you already have some inclination to meditation or relayed practices. Don\’t worry if you don\’t. We will cover all that you may need to know about the subject.

Mindfulness is a state of being aware of the present moment and the surroundings without judging it at all. That can be achieved through various ways such as breath awareness, visualization, and noting. We will take in detail each one of these in the coming posts.

Being in the present moment

Being in this moment can make us feel so calm and relaxed that all problems and worries seem to have vanished. Each in-breath and out-breath carries the power to take us to such a level of inner stillness that we may have ever wondered of.

We have to walk in a way that we only print peace and serenity on the Earth. Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.

Thich Nhat Hanh

With each in-breath see the energy rising within and with each out-breath let-go all the worries. The mind has all the powers we thought only the monks possessed.

All that we need is courage and discipline. Courage to find some time each day to get in touch with this inherent power of deep peace hidden within and discipline to keep the practice go on.

Let us begin with a short session each day and grow gradually. Seasoned meditators can find as much peace in a busy lifestyle as is achievable by a full-time monk.

All we need is to have firm trust in the process.

There is no other place we could have been, there is no other person we could have been with and there is no other work which is more important than what we are currently doing.

Let\’s have peace with what we have and where we are. Here is where we were destined to be. This moment is what we have always wanted to be in.

What is this 30-day challenge all about?

So, what is this 30-day challenge all about. You must be wondering as to what this guy is trying to achieve by this. Honestly speaking, this is a starting point for me to be actively sharing some key learnings about the subject of mindfulness. I found it difficult to write regularly in the past and this is an effort to organize my thoughts and present some meaningful insights. More than anyone else this is an initiative for my own self-progress.
